Dear All My Movies users!
I would like to present to your attention utility which I have called AMM Database Manager. Main reason for its creation was the fact that while All My Movies is an excellent program, but it is not perfect. At some point I realized that I seriously need to take care of cleaning up the database. Since AMM is using for data storage standard MS Access format and I'm a professional database application developer, I decided to create utility myself - just the way I like it. During development and while browsing through this forum's topics, I realized I was not the only one to encounter similar issues. So I decided to polish my utility in order it can be offered to other AMM users. So, what is AMM Database Manager?
It is a combination of database viewer, but with enhanced filtering, searching, groupping and sorting capabilities. DM allows to edit movie card in similar manner to AMM, but include some improved features like easy changing of movie's main genre, which is sort of difficult in AMM. DM also includes several functions for batch processing, similar to those found in Mass plugin but with enhanced options and performing considerably faster. Another group of functions is intended to manage directories (lookup tables) of names, genres, countries, media types, media locations, friends. They include genre merging, countries merging, countries splitting (e.g. Germany / Austria / UK), splitting names into main and alternative, swapping main and alternative name, finding and merging duplicates in names directory, names clean-up, etc.
In order to run AMM Database Manager you need to have MS Access 2002 or 2003 installed on your computer. The utility was designed as Access Application and it cannot work without MS Access. Unfortunately that excludes (at least for now) those users who don't have MS Access.
The utility was already offered for beta-testing to some users on russian forum and received positive feedback. In addition I sent my utility to the author of All My Movies for evaluation. Hope he can voice his opinion here.
Below you can find two links. The first one has an album with the main screenshots of the application, so you can take a look at program's interface and decide for yourself whether you need this utility or not. The second link has zip file with utility and installation program.
Installation instructions:
Download and extract the contents of the zip file. There are two files inside the archive: AMM Manager 2003.mde (application itself) and ActiveXSetup.exe. First of all run ActiveXSetup.exe. - this will install neccessary components. After that you can launch the utility by double-clicking on AMM Manager 2003.mde and it will be opened in MS Access. On the first run utility will prompt you for the location of the database (file with extension .amm). In my opinion utility's interface is easy and intuitive. If you have questions on how to use utility I will be happy to explain. If there is an interest for my application, I might create a brief manual.
WARNING: Backup your database prior to using Database Manager. As any other program, it might contain bugs and I don't want you to blame me that I screwed up your data.
