Not all image files are added to newly created gallery

What circumstances would result in image file not getting added to a gallery?
When "Adding images to the gallery" the total image file count is 5805; however the total image file count drops to just 3010 once the gallery is displayed.
The reduced file set is not as a result of image type filtering as I have all file types selecting in the preferences. It is not a result of sorting either as sort by file name is selected.
I am using Image Comparer 3.3 - TRIAL MODE.
