A few weeks ago, my main book database was approaching 5000 books when an error message occurred when trying to open it. Fortunately, I had backed up the database at 4500 so I started trying to add the last few hundred books again.

Now, once again, an error message is occurring upon trying to open this database. I have a much smaller database that is opening in the program fine.

Could it be that this is just too many books for AMB to handle? I have tried with both the 1.9version and the trial version of 2.0, and there is no difference. I also tried switching computers to see if this made a difference but it did not.

I looked over some older posts and tried using "debug" mode holding down CTRL + shift. Didn't do anything. From a very old post I downloaded JETCOMP.exe to try to access any data that may be corrupt. This did nothing also. Although I'm not sure the data is corrupt. It seems awfully coincidental that the databases both stopped working as they approached the 5000 mark.

Does anyone know what this could be? I really don't have the time to re-input my books again and again.

Thanks for any help!

Hi!
Could you tell the size of the database file? You see there is no limitation by the number of books in the database, but there's a limit to the database file - 2 GB which is easily exceeded.

Yeah, rather strange it is... There shouldn't be any problems here...
One more thing - if you use Virtual Shelf mode, try to switch to title list - menu item View-Title list.

May be this will help..

Yes, I'm already using title list mode. It just keeps giving me an error message with no options. Is there some other way I can view this file to try to see what could be the problem? I can't just give up on 4800 books!

Thanks!

Okay, try to upload the database to rapidshare.com and send the link for downloading to support@bolidesoft.com, the specialists will try to open it locally.

I was wondering if you had found anything out about the databases I sent you 2 weeks ago? Thanks!

Max, from the Bolide Software Team helped me with my problem. I won't be nearly as good as explaining it to you but here goes. He said the database had become corrupted and therefore would not open. One possiblility is the app wasn't closed properly. I take it from him that there could be several reasons why data could become corrupted. Occasionally my computer freezes up and I have to restart. I surmise this was probably the reason.

The software "MS Access" has a fix for this. When you try to open the amb database with MS access it detects the corruption and offers to fix it. Then the database works again when opening it in All My Books.

Other than that I do not know the specifics of it, only that it works and I am so thankful! I had spent hours trying to figure out this mess on my own and was becoming frustrated because I like this software so much. I had researched other book cataloging software before I purchased it so I knew I didn't really want the others.
