Cannot run All My Books 3.5.0.1210 on Windows 7 x32 platform

Hello,
I just downloaded and installed the "Free Download" from the Bolide website. According to the Windows Explorer Properties, the version of the installed executable is 3.5.0.1210.

Note that I am running Windows 7 x32 from an Adminstrator account.

Unfortunately I cannot run this program on this system.

When I try to launch it I get a message saying "Error creating object. Please verify that Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 (or later) have been properly installed).

The first time this happened, I clicked on "OK" and got a blank form to report the error. I typed details about my system into the text field. When I then clicked on "OK". I got a "Socket Error" when the reporting function tried to connect to the Internet.

Subsequent attempts to run the program have resulted in the "Error creating object" error, but no form for reporting error details is provided.

There is nothing wrong with my internet connection, as evidenced by my presence here on the forum. In addition, I have Microsoft Office 2007 installed on my system, which includes Access 2007 and the DAO components that go with it. I've never had problems using the DAO components when running Access 2007.

Any idea what's wrong?

As long as I'm here, I might as well also ask: does All My Books support storage of book contents titles, such as short stories, articles, and essays?

Thanks for the fast response. Unfortunately, the new version amb_setup2.exe produced the same errors, including the socket timeout error when I tried to report the details.

I tried the re-installation twice to make certain that I had uninstalled the original version correctly. I used Revo Uninstaller's Advanced mode to make sure that I cleaned up all outstanding registry entries and files.

According to the Windows File Explorer Properties, the version of the installed program for amb_setup2.exe is 3.5.0.1210

The new installation file is not the same size as the free download on your website, but the installed file version is the same.

Thanks again for the fast response. I'm afraid that if the answers are in those details somewhere, I wouldn't recognize them.

As to the other question: does All My Books support entry of a Book's contents title information, such as short stories, articles, and essays?

The contenders in that context these days, such as FNPrgramvare BookCAT (whose development is on hiatus at the moment) and Collectorz Book Collector, both support entry of contents titles as child records linked to parent book records. Their contents information includes things like author, title, genre, memo fields, starting and stopping page number, publication and copyright dates (in case they differ from the containing book).

The difference between those two heavyweights is that BookCAT has a text importer that can read contents information and link it to book titles. The Collectorz Book Collector's text importer is crippled and can only read book Author, Title, and ISBN.

Those are at least two of your competitors when it comes to contents information. BookCAT's future is questionable, and Collectorz's importer is useless.

Thus it's an open field if you can tackle the storage and import technology for contents information. Those of us familiar with both programs are actively seeking alternatives just in case BookCAT goes down the tubes (which would be a really sad day for catalogers).
