Upgrading from 7.9 to 8.0

I'm relatively new to AMM.
Is there a standard procedure for this?
What I mean is, is the 8.0 setup.exe smart enough to upgrade or do I need to uninstall and then reinstall?
I don't want to take a chance loosing my database!

Yeah, all you need to do is just install the update over your existing installation.

I've upgraded from 7.9 to 8. Now it's asking for Licence Number. Do I get a number for the upgrade and if I have to pay is there any discount for already being a registered user of 7.9?

Yeah, for major updates you have to pay, but all registered users get a 50% discount.
