Is there available a useful definition of the variable threshold setting?

Does AC deal only with the audio content frames? (disregarding tags)

What constitutes 100% identical?

Sorry, I somehow skipped your question
So, yes, Audio Comparer ignores tags. 100% means that the files sound the same - the sound, not a set of bites from a file.
As for the definition of variable threshold setting, will you please refer to Help contents - there it's given in the section Tips and Tricks.

100% or less--what about defective

I am in the early stages of comparing a half-million tunes with AC. (For my needs, tunes only need sound alike; not interested in Album nor any other pedigree...)

Is there any capability within AC to find defective end-of-file (missing some audio) .mp3 files?

I'm guessing that any app that samples a segment of the audio part of a file is by definition not going to find such an incomplete file...

Unfortunately, Audio Comparer can't find defective end-of-file mp3 files.

I use AC every day to process several thousand of my tunes. May I please have a better technical explanation of the sound-alike criteria than found in the help file?

Sorry, but we can't do that...
